Out of New York with a win

It will definitely feel good to get out of New York with a win and onto an off day on Monday.  The Brewers finished the first part of a 9 game road trip and now head to Philly and Houston.  The next 2 ballparks play really small, so hopefully our bats will get going.  Here is a game recap:

– Ok, so hell froze over and Jeff Suppan pitched well.  I’m not quite sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet, but in the short term I’ll take it. His ERA after 3 starts is now down to a robust 8.56.  Remember, Citifield looks to be a pitchers park early on.  Let’s wait until his next start down in Houston, which is a signature hitters park before we get too happy about anything

– Todd Coffey is amazing.  Frankly, he has been the only reliable person out of the bullpen.  I would love to know the last time that a relief pitcher threw 2 2/3 innings for a save.  I have never seen that before and I am sure before Coffey did so today, it had been a long time since that had been done. I still don’t know how he got those double plays in the 7th and 8th.  This is the problem with professional sports.  Todd Coffey is making $800k, while David Riske is making $4.25 mil.  I hope Coffey can keep it up, but since he is the only reliable one right now, I can see him getting over worked quickly.  Below are Coffey’s stats for the year:

9.2 IP, 6H, 3BB, 5K, 0.93 WHIP, 0.00 ERA

– Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart got it done today.  Outside of Cameron’s solo shot, the rest of the offense did nothing.  It is nice to see the top of the order get it done, but they would like some help soon.

Weeks and Hart: 5-8, 1R, 2RBI, 1BB, 1SB

Rest of the team: 3-24

–  JJ Hardy is having a very tough go of it right now.  He looks awful at the plate.  Normally, though, JJ is a sure bet in the field.  Unfortunately, he looked horrible there today, as well.  He dropped 2 balls making the transition from glove to hand and didn’t get to a ball hit to the left of 2nd base that he would normally get to.  I would guess Macha might rest JJ on Tuesday.  This would give him a couple days to sit, think and relax.

That’s all for now.  Enjoy your off day on Monday and get ready for the defending World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies.
