Dan Haren was everything he was billed to be. He was spectacular last night. Sometimes you just tip your cap to the other team. There was basically nothing that the Pirates could do against Yo on Wednesday, just like there was basically nothing the Crew to do against Haren last night. That said, it was disappointing to see the Crew attack so early in counts. They could have benefited to try and work the count a little more. I realize this is tough since Haren was throwing all his pitches for strikes, but pro baseball players know how to foul off pitches. Looper pitched great except for the ill-fated fifth inning. Up to that point he had retired the first 12 batters in order. So not much else to say. The Brewers really need a win today to at least split the series. Here’s a preview:
It looks like Ryan Braun will be out of the lineup for the 2nd straight day, but hopefully the Brewers bats will still find a way to get going. I’m hopeful, because Yusmeiro Petit, the Diamondbacks pitcher, is not very good. So far this year, Petit is 0-2 with a 8.62 ERA. He has a WHIP of 1.98 and opponents are hitting .333 against him. Ouch. Petit is only in the rotation because of the injury to Brandon Webb. Petit has not thrown more than 5 innings this year, so regardless the Crew should get to see a lot of the Diamondbacks bullpen eventually. Dave Bush will take the mound for the Brewers. Bush was not good in his last start, but the offense bailed him out once he left the game. We need him to be good today, so we can at least split this series and hit the road above .500. Let’s see what happens. Go Brewers!
